AvMed has made the decision to exit the Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) market effective December 31, 2025; therefore, AvMed Medicare Advantage plans will not be offered for the 2026 plan year.
As an M-DCPS retiree you have several options:
- You can enroll in a School Board sponsored Medicare plan
- Return to Original Medicare (Parts A & B)
AvMed has established a Miami-Dade County Public Schools dedicated Medicare Transition Support Team that will be in place from October 1, 2025 – October 31, 2025 to assist with the following:
- Respond to Member inquiries regarding current coverage.
- Assist Members currently participating in Care Management programs by connecting them with the appropriate AvMed Care Management representative.
- Answer additional questions you may have regarding when and how to select a new Medicare plan for 2026.

As stated above you have several options to consider:
- Enroll in a School Board sponsored Medicare Advantage plan with Humana or UnitedHealthcare during this open enrollment period.
- Return to Original Medicare (Parts A & B) and enroll in a School Board sponsored UnitedHealthcare Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). Failure to obtain prescription drug coverage may result in a penalty.
- Enroll in a School Board Sponsored Medicare Supplement plan through UnitedHealthcare to help with out-of-pocket costs (this plan does not include creditable prescription drug coverage).
If you do not actively select a new Medicare plan during this open enrollment period, you may be automatically enrolled in Original Medicare, with an effective date of January 1, 2026. Please note, you are still required to obtain credible prescription drug coverage through a stand-alone Part D Prescription Drug Plan regardless of whether you take medications or not. Otherwise, you may be subject to a penalty.

Humana Zero Premium HMO

- This plan will have coverage for routine podiatry, routine chiropractic, routine vision, and routine hearing with hearing aid allowance.
- This plan also has routine acupuncture service, routine dental
- Over-the Counter Drug benefit ($75 maximum)
- Primary Care Physician required
- Includes Extra Benefits such as SilverSneakers and Go365 rewards program
Humana Passive PPO
- Same level of coverage for benefits at in-network and out-of-network providers. See plan materials for additional details.
- Coverage for Routine Podiatry, Routine Chiropractic, Routine Vision, and Routine Hearing with Hearing Aid allowance
- Includes Extra Benefits such as SilverSneakers and Go365 rewards program”
- Also covers Wigs (Medically Necessary) @ 100%
Humana National Traditional PPO
- Coverage for Routine Podiatry, Routine Chiropractic, Routine Vision, and Routine Hearing with Hearing Aid allowance

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Differential PPO

(UHC) Medicare Supplement Plans (Does Not Include Medicare Part D):
Both plan design and premiums are pending approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
- Freedom of choosing physicians of your choice
- Plan F will only continue to be offered to anyone who became a Medicare recipient prior to 1/1/2020
- Rates are based on the applicant’s date of birth, place of residence and tobacco usage
- Supplements Medicare coverage
NOTE: Pre-65 Medicare recipients are not eligible for the Supplement plans.

Unitedhealthcare (UHC) Pharmacy Plans (Medicare Part D Only):
UHC continues to offer Prescription Drug Plans (PDP). Participants currently enrolled in a PDP only may enroll in any of the School Board sponsored Medicare Group Healthcare plans. The following PDP plans are being offered for the 2024 plan year:
- UHC 4-Tier Low Option
- UHC 4-Tier High Option
- UHC 5-Tier Formulary Option
